Planning a trip to Cappadocia and wondering which cave hotel to book? You’re in the right place.

They call it the “Land of Beautiful Horses,” but what really stays with you is the scenery, especially when you’re staying in one of its iconic cave hotels. We’ve seen many otherworldly landscapes, but nothing quite compares to what Cappadocia offers. Fairy chimneys pop up like giant mushrooms while hot-air balloons fill the sky, and you’ll pass cave homes, Byzantine churches, and even underground cities carved into the rock.

Because the region is so spread out, where you stay really makes a difference. Don’t worry, though, we’ve put together this guide with the best areas and cave hotels for every budget, so you don’t waste any time. Let’s get into it!

Don’t Miss Out On Our Top Choice!

Ancient rock dwellings , Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey

This is the area and cave hotel we loved the most and suggest booking ASAP!

Our personal FAVORITE area to stay in is Göreme! It’s central, easy to explore, and the best spot for cave hotels and balloon views.

Our top pick here is Anatolian Houses Cave Hotel & SPA, a unique cave stay with Roman-style pools, historic details, and a relaxing garden space!

About Cave Hotels in Cappadocia

This whole area is jaw-dropping

Making friends in Uçhisar!

Cave hotels in Cappadocia are something else. Sure, there are standard hotels, but it didn’t feel right to come all this way and not sleep in a cave, plus we love our quirky stays! We actually spent way too long choosing because every place looked like the one.

Most of these cave hideaways are set in homes and spaces carved into the region’s soft volcanic rock centuries ago, though many only became tourist accommodations more recently as Cappadocia grew in popularity. Some are simple and traditional, while others are more polished, with terraces, spas, and those balloon views you see everywhere. You’ll find rooms fully carved into the rock, and others that mix cave and stone, which we thought was even more interesting.

What really sets them apart here is the setting. In places like Göreme and Uçhisar, it’s not just about the room; you step outside, and you’re already in the middle of it all, with valleys, fairy chimneys, and hot-air balloons everywhere you look. Some of the best-known cave hotels are in Göreme and Uçhisar, but there are also quieter options with plenty of character in places like Ortahisar and Ürgüp. Best of all, everything is a short taxi or local bus ride away.

  • GöremeBest for first-time visitors – Göreme is the main base, with most sights within walking distance, making it easy to get around. Anatolian Houses Cave Hotel & SPA has stone-walled suites and Roman bath-inspired pools, and with hundreds of artifacts spread throughout the property, it almost feels like a living museum.
  • Uçhisar Best for luxury travel & families – This upscale area sits on a hill and offers some of the best views over the valley, with plenty of space for families with kids to explore. Dream of Cappadocia is a short walk from Uçhisar Castle and comes with large suites, some with private hot tubs and fireplaces.
  • ÜrgüpBest for foodies & relaxation – For those seeking a more relaxed stay in a quieter, rural setting, this is an ideal spot, with good connections to the other towns. Yunak Evleri Cappadocia is a unique cave hotel carved into a massive cliff, with a small library and rooms finished with hardwood floors and traditional carpets.
  • Ortahisar Best for budget travelers – Ortahisar is a practical, budget-friendly choice that’s slightly removed but still just a short drive from everything. A stay at Exedra Cappadocia includes a rooftop pool and a spa, making it a more relaxed option.

Important Tip

Multiple Cappadocia trips have taught us that this city doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.

The sweet spot for booking cave hotels in Cappadocia is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.

The Best Cave Hotels in Cappadocia

BEST FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS

Pros

  • Most attractions are within easy reach
  • A variety of accommodation
  • Plenty of dining, shopping, nightlife, and tour choices

Cons

  • It can get crowded in peak season
  • Prices tend to be higher

Göreme is the heart of Cappadocia’s tourism scene, which makes it the liveliest and most convenient place to stay. It also has the biggest concentration of cave hotels, easy access to major sights and trailheads, and some of the best sunrise balloon views right from town, which is why it usually makes the easiest all-around base for a first trip. We chose it because we wanted to see everything without having to rent a car.

There’s plenty to explore here, but one of the highlights is the Göreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site and former Byzantine monastic settlement carved into the rock. It’s worth exploring the churches too, just make sure to check opening hours. We’d also recommend visiting the Dark Church, where, thanks to the lack of windows, you can still see beautifully preserved frescoes.

One of the best things to do, however, is hiking to Love Valley and Sunset Point for surreal views. Göreme is also a great place to try Turkish cuisine and local wine, and to catch a Dervish ceremony or some belly dancing in the evening. Overall, it’s the ideal starting point for exploring Cappadocia.

Charming Cave Hotel – $$$

Charming Cave Hotel has been run by the same family since 1820, and you notice it right away. With just 16 rooms, it’s small and personal, so you feel at ease from the start. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the main street, which means you can head into town anytime you like.

Every detail is well thought out, but breakfast is what really stands out. You can watch the owner’s mom make fresh gözleme by hand and wait impatiently to try one. Not to mention the terraces, which are some of the highest in Göreme and make a real difference, especially at sunrise when the balloons rise across the valley.

Just keep in mind it’s on a hill, so getting back up takes a bit of effort. Prices usually start from around €155 to €300 per night.

Aza Cave Cappadocia – $$$

Aza Cave Cappadocia is an adults-only hotel and a proper cave stay right in the heart of Cappadocia’s main tourism area. It blends natural rock interiors (there’s a fairy chimney on-site) with modern touches, so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on comfort.

Rooms are spacious, combining cave textures with technology like flat-screen TVs, and despite the stone walls and dim lighting, they still have a warm, home-like atmosphere. It’s also one of the few places in town where you can try Asian fusion and fresh Japanese dishes (sushi and noodles are a welcome change after a few days of local food).

In the summer months, the pool area becomes the perfect place to cool down. The highlight, however, is the service, with staff constantly praised for going above and beyond to keep you happy. Prices start at around €170 to €430+ per night, depending on room type and travel dates.

Anatolian Houses Cave Hotel & SPA – $$

Anatolian Houses Cave Hotel & SPA is our favorite spot and the place we chose for our stay. Right in central Göreme, it offers so much that it’s hard to capture in a few words, and it doesn’t feel like a mid-budget place at all. For starters, there are artifacts everywhere, so if you’re into art and history like we are, you’ll keep noticing something new (but old), no matter where you look.

There are two pools, one outdoor and one indoor, designed to resemble ancient Roman baths, and it’s a great way to cool down after a long day out. In the garden, there’s even a free wine tap, which we definitely made good use of.

Keep in mind that there are quite a few stairs and uneven surfaces, so it may not be ideal for those with mobility difficulties. Prices typically start around €140 per night and can climb quickly during peak dates.

Artemis Cave Suites & Spa – $$

Artemis Cave Suites Hotel in Cappadocia Turkey
Photo credit: Artemis Cave Suites Hotel

Artemis Cave Suites & Spa is another adults-only option, within easy reach of restaurants and bars. It’s also right by one of the best spots for watching the balloons. The rooftop is the main draw here, with wide views over the valley. In the evenings, there’s usually live music, often a local duo playing violin, cello, or guitar, making it a real couple’s retreat.

The rooms are spacious and very clean, built from local stone in the Old Cappadocian style, giving it that cave feel (trust us, you’ll be looking forward to coming back every night). There’s also an underground Turkish bath and spa, though these come at an extra cost. Standard rates typically fall between €140 and €215 per night, depending on the season and room type.

Shoestring Cave House – $

Shoestring Cave House in Cappadocia Turkey

Shoestring Cave House offers a great location right in town, yet it’s quiet enough for a good night’s sleep. You can step out and be in the center within minutes, then come back anytime to switch off, especially on the rooftop terrace, where a bar and pool await. If you’re an early bird, you can watch the hot-air balloons float across the sky, an almost surreal view to go with your morning coffee.

Breakfast is self-serve, with a wide, fresh variety and both indoor and outdoor seating. Rooms here are comfortable, and the bathrooms have heated floors and towel warmers. If you need to step outside the room, there are plenty of other spots beyond the pool area to sit and relax.

Finally, the staff and hosts are easy to communicate with and can help arrange airport transfers and all your tours. Rates usually range between €45 and €225 per night.

Uçhisar

Uçhisar Castle in Cappadocia, Turkey

BEST FOR LUXURY TRAVEL & FAMILIES

Pros

  • Scenic views
  • More authentic and laid-back
  • Family-friendly attractions and accommodations

Cons

  • Higher-priced cave hotels
  • Limited nightlife
  • You might need a car to explore the entire area

Uçhisar sits higher up and has a more polished feel than the other bases, so it tends to attract travelers who come for the scenery and a quieter, more exclusive atmosphere rather than being in the middle of the action. At the same time, it works well for families, with extra space to move around and fewer crowds than the main town. Göreme is only about 4 km (2.5 miles) away, so getting into town is quick if you want to change things up.

This area is known for some of the best panoramic views over Göreme and Pigeon Valley, so if you’re into photos, you’ll have plenty to work with. The fairy chimneys are right on your doorstep, and Uçhisar Castle is hard to miss, a citadel carved into volcanic rock that was once used to defend Cappadocia from invaders.

All in all, we think Uçhisar is a great choice for families and anyone looking for more space and a slightly more upscale stay.

Karlık Cave Suite – $$$

Karlık Cave Suite in Cappadocia Turkey 1

Staying at Karlık Cave Suite comes with an on-site art gallery and modern cave suites full of character. Here, you can enjoy those famous valley and balloon views by an outdoor fireplace or in a hot tub. It’s just a 4-minute walk from Uçhisar Castle, which makes getting around easy, and if you feel like exploring further, you can rent a free bicycle.

The atmosphere leans romantic but also works well for families with children. Rooms are spotless and thoughtfully designed, and the rich Turkish breakfast is worth waking up early for.

Prices usually range between €110 and €260 per night, depending on the room type and season; just keep in mind that visiting in winter is just as special as in summer and much cheaper. For a more luxurious experience, opt for a suite with a private pool and sauna—it’s well worth it!

Simera in Cappadocia – $$$

Simera in Cappadocia is a beautiful stay with incredible views. It sits right by Uçhisar Castle, so the main sight is almost in your backyard, and from the balcony, it feels like all of Cappadocia stretches out at your feet. The place feels warm and cozy, especially in colder months when coming back to a heated room really makes a difference.

Breakfast is another highlight, with a rich Turkish spread that changes each morning slightly. It’s also an easy walk into town, while staying quieter than Göreme. And, after a long day out, you can easily settle into their cozy on-site coffee shop.

Prices here start from around €110 per night. If you can, go for a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony, you won’t regret it!

Dream of Cappadocia – $$

Dream of Cappadocia is a solid mid-range pick, located near attractions like Göreme Open-Air Museum and Pigeon Valley, making it a great option for tours and balloon rides. After a day out exploring, you get to come back to spacious and authentic cave suites that balance traditional charm with modern comforts. Details here are clearly well considered, and extras like heated floors are a welcome touch in the winter months.

Breakfast is another strong point, homemade and varied, but what truly stands out are the staff and the personalized service, making everything easy from the very start. Prices range from around €70 to €175 per night, with breakfast included.

Cappadocia Fairy Chimneys Selfie Cave Hotels – $$

Cappadocia Fairy Chimneys Selfie Cave Hotels is family-friendly, well-located (right next to Uçhisar Castle), and comes with 5-star perks, all while going easy on the wallet. Here you can unwind in your own personal hot tub or by the outdoor fireplace while watching the sunset and the balloons. Views from each room are different, and all are beautiful.

Even better, there’s a lush garden where you can enjoy a local breakfast with Turkish coffee, strong enough to start the day right. The spa is an excellent stop to relax at night, and the yoga classes are a nice addition to your morning routine, especially with Cappadocia’s skyline in the background. Plan on spending roughly €90 to €260 per night, depending on room type and season.

Eyes Of Cappadocia Cave Hotel is a great budget-friendly option located in Uçhisar that still lets you enjoy the cave experience. The suites are large and combine authentic charm with antique furnishings, traditional carpets, and the colors of Cappadocia.

What we love most about this place are the little details in every suite, like a hammock on the balcony and the various spots to sit down and slow down. Most importantly, it’s clean and comfortable, and far more relaxed than a hotel of this caliber in Göreme, so it’s a popular choice for everyone who wants value without sacrificing atmosphere.

Breakfast is typically Turkish, with shakshouka, fruits and vegetables, marmalade, and plenty of fresh pastries. You can eat indoors in the cozy restaurant or outside on the huge terrace with views, though it’s easy to guess where we will end up. Prices start from around €115 per night.

BEST FOR FOODIES & RELAXATION

Pros

  • Wide range of accommodation options
  • Quieter and more relaxed than Göreme
  • Good mix of dining and nightlife

Cons

  • May feel too quiet for some
  • Less suited for families

Ürgüp feels more like a proper town than the other bases and has that local, lived-in feel alongside smarter dining, wine culture, and a broader mix of boutique and upscale stays.

Compared with Göreme and Uçhisar, it is less about iconic balloon-view terraces and dramatic scenery right outside your door, and more about comfort, restaurants, a thriving social scene, and a generally low-key stay. This means evenings here are all about long dinners and a glass of local wine rather than rushing back for sunrise views.

At the same time, this part of Cappadocia is a great starting point for many tours, but jeep and ATV safaris are the highlight (we recommend the sunset ones if you don’t like waking up early). Staying in Ürgüp also puts you close to spots like the Art and History Museum and the Hammam Turkish Bath. If you need a break from cave dwellings and underground cities, both are in the modern downtown area. You’ll also come across pottery workshops and handmade carpet shops, which, trust us, are a nice change from the usual sights.

That said, we think Ürgüp is best for travelers looking for an authentic, laid-back vibe with a polished touch, without being too far from Göreme.

Kayata Cave Suites – $$$

Right in the middle of Ürgüp’s rocky terrain, Kayata Cave Suites makes it easy to settle into that classic cave routine. Located just a short walk from Nikolos Monastery and Ürgüp Museum, attractions are close enough for an easy walk to stretch your legs after lunch. Our favorite part about staying in this area is taking a sunset stroll through the narrow, dimly lit streets, usually with a quick stop at a bar along the way.

Back at the hotel, you’ve got a sun terrace and a lush garden, plus an outdoor fireplace for colder fall nights. Some suites also come with private hot tubs, which are great if you want a quieter night in. There’s even grocery delivery if you’re craving something different.

Rooms typically range from about €140 to €430 per night, and given the perks that come with it, it’s well worth it.

Taru Cave Suites- $$$

With just 12 rooms, Taru Cave Suites is a peaceful, spacious location, near the town center and Temenni Hill. It’s set in a traditional cave structure and offers both traditional touches and modern comforts, so it’s easy to settle into. Most rooms come with a bathtub, but if you can, opt for the Prime Suite with a hammam for an even more relaxing experience.

The walk down to the center of Ürgüp, just below the cave hotel, quickly becomes part of the routine, and it’s something you end up looking forward to. What really stands out, though, is the people. The service is personal, and the owners look after you in a way that feels genuine.

Breakfast here is a real treat, always fresh and local, served in a cozy spot overlooking the valleys and, if you’re lucky, the balloons. Expect to pay around €105 to €300 per night.

Yunak Evleri Cappadocia – $$

Yunak Evleri in Cappadocia Turkey

Yunak Evleri in Cappadocia Turkey 1

What makes Yunak Evleri Cappadocia stand out is that it’s carved into a massive mountain cliff, so if you’re after a true cave experience, it doesn’t get much better than this, plus it’s still relatively easy on the budget. The property dates back to a 19th-century Greek mansion, and you can still see those details throughout.

Rooms are decorated in a warm, traditional style with handcrafted furniture and antiques, ranging from cave rooms to larger suites, including options for families. The spa and the library are a few other places to look forward to, along with candlelight dining on the rooftop terrace.

Keep in mind that there’s a bit of walking to the breakfast area that involves several stairs and stone paths. But it’s all worth it because staying here puts you right in the historical district, just steps from Göreme National Park and Asmalı Konak. You can expect to pay around €210 per night on average.

Pegas Cave Suites – $

Pegas Cave Suites in Cappadocia Turkey

Pegas Cave Suites is a great-value cave hotel and one of our favorites for many reasons. For starters, some rooms come with a pool and an additional jacuzzi, which are perfect if you want something a bit more special for a honeymoon or anniversary. Moreover, breakfast is authentic, with freshly made omelets and at least two dishes changing daily.

It’s also only about a 5-minute walk from the city center, where you’ll find plenty of small eateries and shops, and near the bus station, so getting to Göreme is easy. There’s a courtyard with a fountain and views that make your morning coffee taste even better. Best of all, the staff are friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with tours or recommend places to eat.

We recommend this stay for couples, families, or anyone looking for a budget-friendly place without sacrificing comfort. Prices start at around €75 per night.

Ortahisar

Ortahisar castle in Cappadocia, Turkey (1)

We love its local vibe!

BEST FOR BUDGET TRAVELERS

Pros

  • Ideal for visitors looking for good value
  • Great base for hiking and exploring
  • Authentic village feel

Cons

  • Slightly removed from the main action, so you may need a car
  • Can be very quiet at night, with limited places to go

Ortahisar isn’t far from Göreme, but it feels like a different place altogether. Rather than big terrace scenes and tourist-packed centers, this part of Cappadocia offers a more local village atmosphere built around its dramatic rock castle (the tallest fairy chimney), with quieter streets, strong value, and a more everyday feel that suits travelers who want character without the crowds.

It’s also one of the more affordable areas to stay, with plenty of boutique cave hotels that offer good quality without the higher price tag. Compared to Ürgüp and Göreme, there’s not much going on at night, except for Turkish night and Whirling Dervish shows, which we truly recommend. Otherwise, you can wander around and explore a few cafes and bars set in caves, sample some wine and local treats, and shop in small souvenir stores.

During the day, there’s still enough to keep you busy. Places like Trabzon City Museum and Abdioğlu Cami Mosque are worth checking out, especially if you’re a history buff like us. Overall, we think Ortahisar works well as a base for exploring the region, whether you’re joining local tours or renting a car to do it all at your own pace.

Doda Artisanal Cave Hotel – $$$

Doda Artisanal Cave Hotel in Cappadocia Turkey (3)
Photo credit: Doda Artisanal Cave Hotel

Doda Artisanal Cave Hotel is a recently renovated, adults-only stay with just 8 rooms, which keeps things quiet and personal. The interiors lean into a Hygge (Danish coziness) style, so it’s all about slowing down and appreciating simplicity.

Some suites come with a private pool, and most are built directly into the cave walls, yet still made cozy with kilims (traditional carpets), flat-screen TVs, kettles, and unique art paintings. You’ll also notice old tools and objects reflecting the local culture spread throughout the property.

As for location, the Göreme Open-Air Museum is not far, just 3.8 km (about 2.4 miles) away. The place is unique, so don’t forget your camera; there’s always something worth capturing. Prices typically start from around €110 to €280 per night.

Exedra Cappadocia – $$

Exedra Cappadocia in Cappadocia Turkey 1

Exedra Cappadocia in Cappadocia Turkey

For a mid-range hotel, Exedra Cappadocia stands out with its beautiful, stylish interiors and quieter setting near Ortahisar Castle. We love that it’s set within a large complex of ancient caves and stone houses. There are 80 rooms and suites, all carved and built into the rock across the property, but no two are laid out the same.

There’s also an on-site winery and tasting room, which adds something a bit different to the experience. The hotel is close to sights like the Dark Church (3.1 km or about 2.1 miles), and the staff can help organize everything from tours to airport transfers.

Because of its hillside layout, expect plenty of stairs and a slightly labyrinth-like setup. Prices start from around €70 to €260 per night, including breakfast and daily spa access.

Cappadocia Minia Cave Hotel – $$

Photo credit: Cappadocia Minia Cave Hotel

Cappadocia Minia Cave Hotel is a great pick if you’re after a more modern setup with a 5-star experience, right in the center of the village. While the main sights are a bit further out, the hotel can arrange a shuttle to pick you up, which makes getting around super easy. Despite having plenty of restaurants and even a supermarket nearby, the location feels quiet and peaceful.

There are quite a few things that make it even more special, including the sun terrace and garden overlooking the valleys. If you’re traveling as a couple, the Pink Room is a popular choice for romantic retreats.

At the same time, the hotel also works well for families, with an indoor play area, family suites, kid-friendly menus, and free stays for kids. Prices typically start at around €90 to €260 per night.

Hezen Cave Hotel – $$

Hezen Cave Hotel in Cappadocia Turkey

Hezen Cave Hotel is an excellent family-friendly option, awarded a MICHELIN Key in 2025, so you know you’re in good hands. It’s housed in a former Orthodox Greek house, with 15 rooms and suites carved into the rock. Many come with extras like heated bathroom floors and fireplaces, and it’s easy to tell that comfort is a priority here.

The interiors are eclectic, with historical details mixed with modern comforts that make it easy to settle in. After a day out, it’s nice to come back and sit outside on the terrace, or by the fire in the lounge with a drink from the honesty bar, open 24/7. It’s also just a 6-minute walk from the castle, so the location is great for exploring.

Prices can start as low as €115 per night, with more expensive options ranging from small doubles to larger family rooms and suites.

AIRALO e-SIM Up To 15% Off With Code “DTRAVEL15”

What’s an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.

In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.

We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
