Planning a trip to Napa Valley and not sure where to stay? You’re in the right place.

Napa is famous for its gorgeous estates and rolling vineyards, but figuring out where to base yourself can be confusing. Do you stay in Napa City for convenience, or go all-in on a vineyard stay in somewhere like Yountville or St. Helena?

Well, that’s where we come in! After exploring the region ourselves, we’ve put together this guide to the best areas to stay in Napa Valley, along with our top hotel picks for every budget. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or just some incredible flavors, we’ll help you to find the right base.

Don’t Miss Out On Our Top Choice!

This is the area and hotel we loved the most and suggest booking ASAP!

Our personal FAVORITE area to stay in is Napa City! It’s central, walkable, and packed with restaurants, bars, and tasting rooms, so everything feels easy.

Our top pick here is R Inn Napa, a cozy, boutique-style stay just outside downtown with a quieter, more relaxed vibe.

Overview of the Best Areas to Stay in Napa Valley

Are you a foodie as well as a wine lover? Yountville should be at the top of your list!

Napa Valley looks small on a map, but where you stay makes a big difference! Each area has its own vibe, and picking the right base can shape your whole trip.

Napa City is the easiest option, especially if it’s your first time here. You’ve got loads of restaurants and tasting rooms in one place, and lots of great hotel options, with the wineries just a short drive away. It’s also a bit more affordable.

Meanwhile, Yountville, St. Helena, and Calistoga feel a bit more like classic wine country, with vineyard views and small, picture-perfect town centers. They’re great, just expect prices to reflect that!

Then there’s Sonoma, which is not technically Napa Valley, but it’s only about 20 minutes from Napa City. We’ve included it in this blog because we think it works really well if you want to explore both regions, or you’ve already done Napa before.

One thing to keep in mind: you’re going to be drinking a lot of wine. Renting a car sounds good in theory, but it’s not always the best idea. Most people rely on Uber or taxis, hire a driver for the day, or just book tours and let someone else handle the logistics.

  • Napa CityBest for first-time visitors – Napa’s main hub offers a walkable downtown packed with restaurants, tasting rooms, and hotels, all within easy reach of nearby wineries. R Inn Napa is a boutique-style stay just outside downtown that offers great value and a convenient base for exploring.
  • YountvilleBest for luxury travelers – This small but polished town is known for its high-end hotels and incredible dining scene, all set along a compact, walkable strip. Napa Valley Lodge is a great option with vineyard views and a central location.
  • St. HelenaBest for a wine-centric location – Set right in the heart of Napa Valley, this area is surrounded by vineyards and close to some of the region’s most iconic wineries. Wydown Hotel is a low-key but sophisticated stay with lots of personal touches.
  • CalistogaBest for a quieter, spa-filled stay – Located at the northern end of the valley, Calistoga is known for its hot springs and mud baths. The Inn on Pine offers a cozy and personal stay with great access to hiking trails.
  • Sonoma CityBest for access to both Napa & Sonoma – Centered around a historic plaza, Sonoma has a more local feel and offers easy access to both wine regions. We love the Inn at Sonoma for its welcoming atmosphere and rooftop hot tub.

Important Tip

Multiple Napa Valley trips have taught us that this city doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.

The sweet spot for booking Napa Valley accommodations is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.

Where to Stay in Napa Valley

Napa City

Bailey-drinking-wine-in Napa Town Napa Valley
There are tons of great restaurants and tasting rooms here
Coombs Street in Napa Town Napa Valley California
This may not be the most exciting part of Napa Valley, but it’s easily the most convenient

BEST FOR FIRST TIME VISITORS

Pros

  • Walkable downtown area with lots of restaurants and tasting rooms
  • Wide range of hotels for different budgets

Cons

  • Less of that “vineyard stay” feel
  • Can be busier and more built-up than other areas

Napa City is the easiest and most practical place to stay in the valley, especially if it’s your first visit here! It’s the largest town in the region, so you’ve got the best mix of restaurants, wine bars, shops, and hotels all in one place. The downtown area is compact and walkable, with plenty of tasting rooms dotted around, plus a nice stretch along the Napa River that gives it a bit of atmosphere in the evenings.

It’s a great option if you don’t want to rely too much on transport. You can spend a full day hopping between tasting rooms, grabbing dinner, and having a few drinks without needing to think about how you’re getting back. That said, you’re still within easy reach of some excellent wineries just outside of town, including Artesa Vineyards & Winery, Domaine Carneros, and Clos Du Val.

If you want a central base with plenty going on, Napa City is hard to beat. It’s not the most scenic or exclusive part of the valley, but it makes everything feel easy, which is exactly what most first-time visitors are looking for.

Andaz Napa, By Hyatt – $$$

Andaz Napa, By Hyatt is right in the heart of downtown, which makes it one of the most convenient places to stay if you want everything on your doorstep. You’re within walking distance of lots of restaurants and wine bars, so it’s very easy to fill your evenings without needing to think about transport.

The hotel itself has a refined feel, with spacious rooms filled with neutral decor and lots of natural light. There’s a sophisticated on-site restaurant and bar, plus a small terrace area that’s great for a drink before heading out. It’s a solid choice if you want something central with a bit of style.

Rooms here usually start at around $350 USD per night and can go up to $700+ USD in peak season.

If Andaz Napa is fully booked, Archer Hotel Napa is another great option right downtown with amazing reviews and a bit more of a boutique vibe. It boasts a super central location and a gorgeous rooftop bar – what more could you want?

If not, Napa River Inn is another alternative set along the river, and it offers free shuttles to the downtown area. It’s housed inside the historic Napa Mill, so it offers a unique and historic stay with lots of personality!

R Inn Napa – $$

R Inn Napa feels a bit more low-key and personal than the more luxurious options, but that’s exactly why people love it! It’s set in a historic building just outside the main downtown area, so you’re close enough to walk in, but far enough away that it feels quieter at night.

The rooms are simple but thoughtfully done, with a boutique feel that leans more toward a guesthouse than a full-service hotel. There’s no big resort setup here, but that’s part of the appeal. It’s a great pick if you want somewhere relaxed and well-located without paying downtown prices.

Rooms here usually start at around $220 USD per night and go up to $450 USD depending on the room type.

If R Inn Napa is booked up, Hampton Inn & Suites is a reliable option just a short drive from downtown with spacious rooms and consistent quality. It offers a complimentary hot breakfast this morning and a nice patio area with a fire pit.

Elm House Inn is another great alternative closer to the center with a more boutique, homey feel. The rooms are huge, and there’s a hot tub in the garden for guests to relax in – bliss.

Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Napa Valley – $

Hawthorn-Suites-by-Wyndham-Napa-Valley-in-Napa-Valley-California
Photo credit: Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Napa Valley

Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Napa Valley is a practical and comfortable base that covers all the essentials. It’s not right in the center, but you’re only a short drive or Uber ride away from downtown, which helps keep the price down.

Rooms are spacious and more apartment-style, with extra room to spread out compared to many hotels in the area. There’s also a pool and complimentary breakfast, which adds a bit of extra value, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time out exploring wineries.

Rooms here usually start at around $140 USD per night and can go up to $300 USD in peak periods.

If Hawthorn Suites is fully booked, RiverPointe Napa Valley Resort offers super cute, colorful little cottages accommodation set along the river, just outside the main downtown area. It’s a good option if you want space and a quieter setting, plus there’s a nice pool and garden.

Hotel Napa Valley is a quaint little inn with plenty of personality, and lots of thoughtful touches like spa-style olive oil soaps in the bathroom and complimentary homemade cookies! Plus, it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the downtown area, so it’s a good choice if you want to be closer to the action.

Yountville

A vineyard near Yountville Napa Valley California (2)
Yountville is a small but stunning town
Food-from-eaten in Yountville Napa Valley California
With tons of amazing restaurants, you are never far from incredible food

BEST FOR LUXURY TRAVELERS

Pros

  • Beautiful, walkable town with a very polished feel
  • Incredible food scene, including Michelin-starred restaurants

Cons

  • One of the most expensive areas in Napa Valley
  • Smaller and quieter, with less variety than Napa City

Yountville is easily one of the most desirable places to stay in Napa Valley, especially if you want to really embrace the whole wine country experience! It’s a small town, but it’s absolutely beautiful, and it almost feels too perfect to be real – like a movie set or something.

Washington Street is the town’s main thoroughfare, and it’s lined with tasting rooms and restaurants housed in gorgeous stone buildings that wouldn’t look out of place in Tuscany. One of those restaurants is, of course, the French Laundry, which boasts three Michelin stars! As you can imagine, this is where you come if food is a big part of your trip.

You’ve also got plenty of tasting rooms within walking distance of one another, so you can easily spend a full day moving between wine stops without needing to plan transport. But when you do want to explore further, you’re right in the middle of the valley, with top wineries like Domaine Chandon, Jessup Cellars, and Priest Ranch Tasting Room all close by!

Sounds amazing, right? It is, but do be prepared for higher prices across the board, because Yountville definitely leans more high-end than the rest of the valley. Still, if you’re looking for luxury, you’ll certainly find it here.

Bardessono Hotel and Spa – $$$$

Bardessono Hotel and Spa in Napa Valley California
Photo credit: Bardessono Hotel and Spa
Bardessono Hotel and Spa in Napa Valley California 1
Photo credit: Bardessono Hotel and Spa

My oh my! Bardessono Hotel and Spa is one of the most impressive stays in Napa Valley – and that’s putting it politely. It’s right in the center of Yountville, so you can walk to some of the best restaurants and tasting rooms in the region, but the hotel itself feels very private and tucked away. It’s very “California” – and I mean that in the best way!

For example, this is an uber-luxe hotel, but although the rooms are spacious, they’re actually pretty minimal in design, with a strong focus on sustainability and comfort. The standout here is the spa setup, where treatments can be brought directly to your suite, along with a rooftop pool that’s perfect for unwinding after a day of wine tasting.

Rooms here usually start at around $900 USD per night and can go well beyond $1,500 USD depending on the suite.

If Bardessono is fully booked, Hotel Yountville is a great alternative just off the main strip with a huge spa and complimentary wine tastings three nights out of the week. The suites are very spacious and airy, and there are free bikes available for guests to use.

Napa Valley Lodge – $$$

Napa Valley Lodge in Napa Valley California

Napa Valley Lodge is a great middle ground if you want to stay in Yountville without going all-in on ultra-luxury pricing. It’s set just off the main road, so you’re within walking distance of restaurants and tasting rooms, but it’s just not such an extreme level of luxury as some of the higher-end properties.

And don’t get me wrong, this place is still absolutely gorgeous, and there are definitely a couple of nods to Tuscany around here. The rooms lean more classic in style, but they’re spacious and comfortable, and many overlook the vineyard or garden areas. There’s also a nice outdoor pool and a complimentary breakfast, and no resort fees, which is a big bonus in an area where everything tends to come at a premium!

Rooms here usually start at around $400 USD per night and can go up to $800+ USD in peak season.

If Napa Valley Lodge is booked up, North Block Hotel is a more boutique option right in the center of town. It has a smaller, more intimate setup along with a pool and spa, and an insanely high guest rating.

The Estate Yountville – $$$

The Estate Yountville in Napa Valley California

The Estate Yountville is a larger resort-style option that still manages to feel polished and in keeping with the area. It’s set across a spacious property with gardens, tasting rooms, and multiple buildings, so it feels a bit more expansive than most hotels in Yountville.

You’re still right in the heart of town, which makes it easy to walk to restaurants and wineries, but having everything on-site gives you the option to stay put and relax for the day if you prefer. The rooms are plush, with gorgeous boutique decor, and we think that the overall setup works well if you want a mix of convenience and a bit more space.

Rooms here usually start at around $450 USD per night and can go up to $900+ USD, depending on the room type.

If The Estate Yountville is fully booked, Lavender, A Four Sisters Inn is a smaller but charming option set just off the main street. It has a cozy, boutique feel with a more personal touch, making it a great choice if you prefer something quieter and less resort-like.

St. Helena

View of the Napa Valley Around St. Helena California
The view of the Napa Valley around St. Helena

BEST FOR A WINE-CENTRIC LOCATION

Pros

  • Right in the heart of Napa Valley wine country
  • Close to some of the region’s most iconic wineries

Cons

  • Fewer hotel options compared to Napa City
  • Can be pricey, especially in peak season

I’m pretty sure that St. Helena is what most people picture when they think of Napa Valley. You’ve got vineyard-lined roads and a charming Main Street, as well as a quieter atmosphere. It’s the perfect base if your main goal is to visit wine estates rather than just hopping between tasting rooms, because if you stay here, you’ll be surrounded by some of the most well-known estates in the region. Places like Beringer Vineyards and Hall Wines are all just a short drive away, so it’s easy to hit multiple spots in just one day!

The town itself is small but well put together, with a handful of great restaurants, boutique shops, and tasting rooms along Main Street. It’s quieter than Yountville and doesn’t have that ultra-luxury feel, but it still boasts acclaimed restaurants, including the Michelin-starred PRESS Restaurant. You’re not exactly slumming it here, but it just feels a bit more laid back.

All in all, if you’re looking to spend lots of time on amazing wine estates, St. Helena is perfect. This is where we think real wine lovers should stay!

Harvest Inn – $$$

Harvest Inn in Napa Valley California

We love the Harvest Inn because it really leans into the whole Napa Valley setting. It’s surrounded by vineyards and gardens, so it actually feels like you’re staying in wine country, rather than just using it as a base. The location is great too, just outside the center of St. Helena. There’s even a complimentary car service to take you to the wineries – that’s the dream!

The rooms are spread across cottage-style buildings, many of which feature huge stone fireplaces. There are also two outdoor pools and a farm-to-table restaurant on-site, and the vineyard views are just gorgeous. This is a true wine country stay if ever there was one!

Rooms here usually start at around $400 USD per night and can go up to $800+ USD, depending on the season.

If Harvest Inn is fully booked, Alila Napa Valley, a Hyatt Resort is a more modern option set right next to the vineyards. It’s adults-only and feels more polished than family-run, with a gorgeous outdoor firepit and swimming pool.

Wydown Hotel – $$

Wydown Hotel in Napa Valley California

Wydown Hotel is a contemporary hotel right on Main Street, so you really couldn’t ask for a more central location in St. Helena. If you stay here, you’ll have restaurants and tasting rooms right on your doorstep, which makes it a very convenient base.

The hotel itself is small and boutique, with a clean, modern design that feels simple but very well done. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the whole place has a quiet, low-key feel, with friendly service and an outdoor pool.

Rooms here usually start at around $250 USD per night and go up to $500 USD depending on the room type.

If Wydown Hotel is booked up, Southbridge Napa Valley is another great option just off Main Street with great facilities. It offers large rooms and access to a nearby spa, and breakfast is included, which is not all that common in these parts!

Vineyard Country Inn – $

If you’re looking for something more affordable that still feels like Napa Valley, Vineyard Country Inn is a great find. It’s set just outside St. Helena, surrounded by vineyards, so you still get that classic wine country setting without the higher price tag.

What makes this place special is that it’s housed in a charming, old-school cottage, and it really does feel like a home away from home rather than a hotel. The rooms have that traditional, countryside feel, and many offer vineyard views. There’s also a lovely pool and a delicious complimentary breakfast, which adds to the overall value.

Rooms here usually start at around $200 USD per night and can go up to $350 USD depending on the season and room type.

Calistoga

The Castello di Amorosa winery seen in Napa Valley California
The Castello di Amorosa winery is the most unique in all of Napa Valley

BEST FOR A QUIETER, SPA-FILLED STAY

Pros

  • Less crowded feel compared to other areas
  • Known for spas and wellness-focused stays

Cons

  • Further from the main Napa hubs
  • Fewer dining and nightlife options

Calistoga sits at the northern end of Napa Valley and feels noticeably different from the rest of the region. It feels more rustic and less polished than places like Yountville, which is exactly the appeal! This is where you come if you want to switch off, rather than rushing between winery bookings and restaurants.

But don’t worry, you’re still in a great spot for wineries, though. Castello di Amorosa is one of the most unique in the region, and it’s set in a full-scale castle! We also highly recommend visiting the famous Chateau Montelana, and Sterling Vineyards offer amazing views of the region – they’ve even got a cable car! There’s actually a shuttle in town that can take you to several local wineries, including Castello di Amorosa.

Aside from wine, the town is best known for its hot springs and mud baths. There’s a big spa culture here, and stays are generally geared towards relaxation. We’d suggest staying here if you’re planning a more wellness-focused trip, where wine tasting is part of the plan but not the whole point of the trip.

Calistoga is not the place for nightlife and packed itineraries, but if you’re looking for a chance to rest and recharge in the Napa Valley, it’s the perfect destination.

Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa – $$$

Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa has a fun, retro feel that stands out from the more traditional Napa Valley hotels. It’s inspired by classic American road trips, but with a modern twist, so you get that laid-back vibe without sacrificing comfort. The location is great too, just a short walk from downtown Calistoga, so you can easily head out for dinner or drinks.

The real highlight here is the spa setup, with geothermal pools, mineral baths, and a range of treatments that lean into Calistoga’s wellness reputation. Rooms are bright, simple, and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere feels relaxed rather than overly polished. It’s a great option if you want something a bit quirky that still fits the area.

Rooms here usually start at around $300 USD per night and can go up to $600+ USD depending on the season.

If Calistoga Motor Lodge is fully booked, Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort and Mineral Springs is another great option right in the center of town with a strong focus on spa experiences. It’s recently been updated and offers mineral pools and treatments in a quirky, Palm Springs-style setting.

Mount View Hotel & Spa is another alternative just off the main street with an elegant feel. There’s a whirlpool on site, as well as cabanas and a private garden patio, and there’s a sophisticated lounge on site, so you get both wellness and wine here!

The Inn on Pine – $$

The Inn on Pine in Napa Valley California

The Inn on Pine is a simple, comfortable option right in the center of Calistoga, making it a great base for exploring the area. You’re within walking distance of restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops, so you don’t need to rely too much on transport once you’re there.

The rooms feel really cozy and welcoming, and there’s a small outdoor pool on site with lovely mountain views. The rooms have their own private patios, which are nice for reading and relaxing on, and they’re very spacious.

Rooms here usually start at around $200 USD per night and can go up to $400 USD depending on the season.

If The Inn on Pine is booked up, Best Western Plus Stevenson Manor is another reliable option close to downtown with spacious rooms and a breakfast included. It has less of a wellness vibe, but there’s still a sauna, hammam, and jacuzzi on site.

Golden Haven Hot Springs – $

Golden Haven Hot Springs in Napa Valley California
Photo credit: Golden Haven Hot Springs

Golden Haven Hot Springs is a great budget-friendly option if you want to experience Calistoga’s spa culture without spending a fortune. It’s a smaller, more low-key property, but it still offers access to multiple mineral pools, mud baths, and spa treatments, which is what most people come here for anyway!

The rooms aren’t flashy, but they’re comfortable, and some of them have their own private spa baths! We also love the garden area where guests can play chess or enjoy a glass of wine by the fire pit. All in all, this is a low-key but classy spot, and we think it offers great value for the Napa Valley!

Rooms here usually start at around $150 USD per night and can go up to $300 USD depending on the season.

If Golden Haven is already booked up, The Bergson is another affordable option, just a short walk from the center of town. It feels a bit more like a boutique country inn, with cozy rooms and heritage design.

Sonoma City

Sonoma City Hall Sonoma California near Napa Valley
Sonoma City Hall

BEST FOR ACCESS TO BOTH NAPA & SONOMA

Pros

  • More relaxed, local feel
  • More affordable
  • Easy access to both Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries

Cons

  • Not actually in Napa Valley
  • You’ll need to drive or arrange transport more often

Sonoma offers a slightly different experience from Napa, and that’s exactly why people love it! It’s more laid-back and generally better value for money, while still giving you access to excellent wineries and a great food scene.

Everything here revolves around Sonoma Plaza, which is a historic square lined with tasting rooms and boutique hotels. It’s a really pleasant place to base yourself, especially if you like the idea of being able to walk out in the evening for dinner or a drink without needing to plan too much.

You’re also well-positioned to explore both regions. Wineries like Buena Vista Winery, Gundlach Bundschu, and Scribe Winery are all close by, and Napa’s Carneros region is only about a 20–30 minute drive away.

Sonoma is a great choice if you’ve already been to Napa, or if you want a slightly quieter and more local base without giving up access to the bigger-name wineries. It’s not as high-end as some parts of Napa, but given that prices are lower and the whole place feels less pretentious, that’s often part of the appeal!

MacArthur Place Inn & Spa – $$$$

MacArthur Place Inn & Spa in Napa valley California (1)

MacArthur Place Inn & Spa in Napa valley California (2)
Photo credit: MacArthur Place Inn & Spa

MacArthur Place Inn & Spa is one of the most polished stays in Sonoma, set across a spacious and historic estate, just a short walk from Sonoma Plaza. It feels more like a private estate than a typical hotel, with spacious rooms that are spread out across the property, so you feel like you’ve got the place to yourself! We also love the gorgeous neutral decor – it’s the stuff of Pinterest dreams.

The on-site restaurant, Layla, is wonderful, too – and in true wine country style, it’s a farm kitchen. There’s also a full-service spa on site, or you can even request a massage in your room so you can go straight to sleep afterward – sounds pretty heavenly to me!

Rooms here usually start at around $700 USD per night and can go well beyond $1,200 USD depending on the room type.

If MacArthur Place is fully booked, The Lodge at Sonoma Resort is another great option just outside the main plaza with a more classic resort-style setup. It offers a large pool, spa facilities, and a slightly more traditional feel while still being close to the center.

Inn at Sonoma, A Four Sisters Inn is a smaller, boutique-style stay just a short walk from Sonoma Plaza. It feels spacious and has that traditional, inn-style feel. If you prefer small and more personal stays over larger hotels, this is an excellent choice!

The rooms here are comfortable and individually styled, and the overall atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. There’s also a rooftop hot tub, which is a very nice bonus after a day of wine tasting!

Rooms here usually start at around $300 USD per night and can go up to $650 USD depending on the season.

If Inn at Sonoma is booked up, Cottage Inn & Spa is another great boutique option located right near the plaza. It offers charming cottage-style rooms and a more romantic, intimate feel, so it’s a great fit for couples in particular.

Sonoma Valley Inn – $

Sonoma Valley Inn in Napa Valley California

Sonoma Valley Inn may be more wallet-friendly than a lot of other stays in Sonoma, but make no mistake – it’s no slouch! This is a lovely and welcoming inn with modern farmhouse decor and a great location. It’s just a short walk from Sonoma Plaza, so you’re close to the best restaurants and tasting rooms.

And this place still offers a lot more than just a bed for the night. There’s a lovely, leafy garden with an outdoor pool and a covered hot tub, as well as a cozy bar on site. We also love how spacious the rooms are, and the huge bathtubs are perfect for a post-wine-tasting soak!

Rooms here usually start at around $185 USD per night and can go up to $400 USD depending on the season.

If Sonoma Valley Inn is fully booked, El Dorado Hotel is another centrally located option right on Sonoma Plaza. It has a more boutique feel, with a fantastic restaurant on site and free bikes you can use to explore the surrounding area!

Renting a Car in the USA

View of the road and scenery driving down route 66 in USA

The United States is a vast country with diverse landscapes, from bustling cities to scenic national parks. While public transportation exists in major cities, renting a car is often the best way to explore the country’s wide-open spaces and hidden gems.

We always book with Discover Cars and can’t recommend them enough. It’s super easy to compare prices, check company ratings, find the right vehicle for your needs, and add affordable full coverage insurance. If you want a full breakdown, check out our Discover Cars review here.

Tips for Renting a Car in the USA

  • Drive on the right: In the U.S., vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road, and the driver’s seat is on the left. If this is different than your home country, take some time to adjust before hitting busy streets!
  • Know the local rules: Speed limits, road signs, and driving laws can differ between states. For example, turning right on red is generally allowed after a complete stop, unless a sign indicates otherwise. Always check the specific rules for the states you’ll be driving in.
  • Add full insurance: We always recommend full coverage rental insurance, especially in the U.S., where long distances, varying road conditions, and unpredictable weather can lead to unexpected situations. Discover Cars makes it easy (and affordable!) to add this peace of mind when you book.
  • Choose the right car: Consider the nature of your trip. For city driving, a compact car is convenient, while for road trips or national park visits, an SUV might be more comfortable. With Discover Cars, it’s easy to filter by vehicle type, transmission, fuel efficiency, and more to find the perfect fit.

What You Need to Rent a Car in the USA

  • A valid driver’s license from your home country.
  • An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended if your license is not in English or uses a non-Roman alphabet. Some rental companies may require it, so it’s best to check in advance.
  • A credit card in the driver’s name is typically required for the security deposit.
  • Most rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old, with a young driver surcharge applicable for those under 25. Some companies may have higher age requirements, so make sure you double-check.

An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.

In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.

💡 Bonus: We’ve got an exclusive 15% discount for our readers. Use the codes:
